In terms of "prophecies," remember to test words that have been shared. Not every word may be of God even if the person has a tendency to accurately share things that would witness in your heart. Usually, the words that are shared without any testimony or witness is not a word from God because Jesus says, "If I bear witness of myself, My witness is not true." If they are not, throw it away. At LoveHOP we place emphasis on the confirmations/witness that we have in the lifestyle of prayer with other believers as well, and we share these words publicly. We have more of an inclination to call it a prophetic word when there is a witness on it. (We do not call it a confirmation if one person hears someone sharing it and then had a vision of it.) The spirit of prophecy is the testimony of Jesus Christ, and all the words are ultimately meant to lead us to worship God. Revelation 19:10 "At this I fell at his feet to worship him (the angel). But he said to me, 'Don’t do that! I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers and sisters who hold to the testimony ofJesus. Worship God! For it is the Spirit of prophecy who bears testimony to Jesus.”
1 Thessalonians 5 "19 Do not quench the Spirit. 20 Do not treat prophecies with contempt 21 but test them all; hold on to what is good, 22 reject every kind of evil" (NIV)
2 Corinthians 13 "1 This will be my third time I am coming to you. “By the mouth of two or three witnesses every word shall be established” (NKJV).
John 5: 31 “If I testify about myself, my testimony is not true." In the same way, the words of the Lord will always have witnesses. There are four types of witness shown in the Scriptures.
Before we call someone a false prophet when their words have not yet come to pass, lets consider all of the prophecies that have not come to pass by the prophets written in the Scripture. For everything else and everything in between, love each other well.
